GEOGRAPHY

Not a subject I was particularly good with at school. I seem to ping-pong between Brighton (my home town by the seaside) and London (which has been the place I tend to work and socialise). The last "change" was when just before December 2000 I moved back up to London although this time it was to "saff London" to live with Abi and Stella in Streatham Common. You can see an aerial view of where we lived by clicking here.

However, I'm never one to stay in one place for long and so I made way for Abi's next flatmate Tom as I moved in with Glenn, a massive five minutes up the road in deepest darkest Streatham. At least it gives me an extra five minutes in bed these days.

I lived in Brighton (different link this time) for most of my life and never really wanted to leave, I suspect give it time and I'll find my way back. I enjoy the fact it's big without being too big, friends can just pop round, and of course walking along the beach which is just so good if you want to clear your head or are feeling stressed. Well it works for me anyhow... And congrats to Brighton and Hove for being awarded City Status... it's a great place to visit - what are you waiting for?

I spent a year in North West London (Willesden Junction), but wasn't very impressed with it all really and nor was my Mum after it appeared on Crimewatch in my first month of being there for a murder that took place at the station. Some people prefer "norf" to "saff" London and others vice-versa, to each their own really... I don't really have a preference, but at least it made commuting to work each day easier *grin*.

MARITAL STATUS

*Wow* Spencer is in a relationship again :-)

It's been over a year since my last boyf dumped me because I wasn't a multinational Financial Institution (don't ask). I wasn't in a particular hurry to go out with anyone because I think these things happen in their own time and if there's one type of person I'm guaranteed to not get on with it's someone "in love with being in love". I met some gr8 people in that time that have become good friends but not being rude to them nothing that would have worked in a relationship kinda way if that makes any sense.

I met Glenn on the Internet (surprise, surprise) and from the first time we met I think we both realised there was something special between us. It was a long, complicated and sometimes fraught process before we started going out but it was worth it all in the end.

We're currently living together in Streatham, "saff" London.

STATS

Forgive me, but this is always the bit which I hate writing. All details are approx. and subject to the best guesses of my friends collective: 5ft 7", average build about 10 1/2 stone, short shaved brown hair, hazel-ish eyes. You wanted more? Oh dear... I get easily embarrassed, me! Try looking at the pictures instead. ;-)

LEISURE

Well when I get five minutes, music has to be my biggest passion. Whether it's my latest CD, or MTV now that NTL have managed to get the installation done after six months... My musical tastes are fairly wide and varied but more about that later... Once upon a time I never seemed to get enough time to go to the cinema, and end up having to watch everything on video, EventList changed that but juggling my social life sometimes can be mad. All time favorite movies? Appearing here soon.

Sportywise I am a failure. The nearest I get is saying that I will join a gym. It's been a New Year Resolution in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002! Despite looking hopeful in the Summer of 1999 it still hasn't been accomplished by June 2002. I've found a local gym which I'm quite keen on joining - now I just need to find some people to go with, any volunteers? Who can tell... A brief stint with the Kings Cross Steelers RFC was interesting (and painful) enough.

Just take the Internet as read I may have not been the swiftest in getting a new Web site up and running but generally email is checked sooo frequently it's untrue and I'm online loads. I'll put some more computery things on the site soon. I don't get a chance very often but I do like a good read, normally on holiday I binge through about six novels - for some of the more memorable click here (well, as soon as I've written the page that is!). I do my fair share of pubbing and clubbing, but all my mates seem to be settling down so meeting up for a coffee or meal is becoming more common, and is cool in a "can hear other people talking" sort-of-way.

Relaxing in front of my (ever growing) DVD collection is kewl once-in-a-while and if I'm really down there's always shopping to lighten my mood (or increasingly online auctions). I also enjoy going to the horse races after Jon got me hooked in '98 (and winning some money helped. I'm quite a family and friends type person so catching up with them is always good.

WORK

Current Occupation: Web Information Manager ... for ... The London Borough of Merton
... and ... well never say local government can't be challenging. I've worked for local government before and I know that despite it's reputation it can be a dynamic and interesting environment. Certainly the job I'm in at present is challenging in all senses of the word. But that's at the end of the day what keeps me interested and motivated. I've now been at Merton for over eighteen months which is a bit of a record in itself.

If that wasn't enough there's Fresh, my little sideline...

I'm a former Director of the Allsorts Youth Project, which is funded by the Princess of Wales Memorial Fund of which I contributed the IT part of the bid.

And how could I not mention my part-time Modelling? If you need someone to model then get in touch.

EDUCATION

Really sad as a kid, most people wanted to become a footballer or whatever and I just wanted to go to University. I started on my BA (Hons) Information and Library Studies course at the University of Brighton in 1993. And no I don't want to be a Librarian, so don't even ask okay?

I have since completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Development (Voluntary Organisations) at Middlesex University and keep talking about applying for a place on a Postgraduate Certificate course in Online Education and Training run on a distance-learning basis by the Institute of Education or maybe even an MBA... time will tell.

Two of my professional bodies, the Institute of Information Scientists and the Library Association have merged to form the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) which means I now have until September 2002 or something to complete my Chartership after all these years. Yet another panic I think!

HOLIDAYS

I've always been strangely drawn to Ireland and Canada. I managed to get a work trip to Dublin for a couple of days while I was working for TMP Worldwide which wasn't bad!!! Not a lot of time to go round and do the touristy thing so a repeat visit happened in January 2000, check out the pics in the gallery section soon. A group of us went over in July 2001 to see Robbie Williams in Concert. Phwoar. And then Glenn took me over for a birthday present in April 2002.

The other place I really want to visit is Canada - so maybe I'll get there sometime soon? I also fancy doing Prague and Amsterdam and I can certainly see doing one of those before 2002 is out. 2000 saw a holiday to Ternerife with the pics again appearing in the gallery section soon. Other holiday destinations have included Spain, Florida, Paris, Brussells and Germany. All very European I know, but I'm working on it.

POLITICS

Oh.... serious subject, or not so serious depending on your perspective. Well since I spent a year as President of the University of Brighton Students' Union (UBSU) you would sort of expect to find some mention of it here wouldn't you?

Anyhow for what it matters, I was an independent sabbatical i.e. wasn't a member of any of the student political groups, and so caused equal amounts of trouble for everyone ;-)

These days I don't really have an affiliation to any particular party - like most people I'm not entirely impressed with the new Labour look and policies. Hmmm, tuition fees, section 28 and age of consent, nice one people!

I'm a steward for my work branch of UNISON as well as also being on the London Region UNISON Lesbian and Gay committee.
