FridayHumour
A concept that started several years ago when I was working for the
University of Brighton Students'
Union... Every week, someone within the organisation would send out a joke
on one of the email social lists. It provided some light relief at the end of the week for a large number
of people. Eventually, I left Brighton but friends kept forwarding me the FridayHumour, of course I had been
forwarding it to all my friends. The distribution grew and grew as you can imagine...
In the run up to Christmas 1998 saw lots of very bored people in offices and the humour got out of hand, with over 10 messages being sent out on some days. It was decided to restructure FridayHumour to turn it into a digest of the best messages I had been sent that week in order to cut down on the amount of emails.
But from 23rd July 1999 FridayHumour moved onto its next chapter. The list had grown and grown, over 100 people regularly receive the jokes from over five email accounts that I operate. All this takes time, and some of the software really isn't up to it... The decision has been taken to move the humour onto an official mailing list that will open the jokes up to a new audience. The first jokes to be sent in this way was done on 23rd July 1999. The list continues to be moderated (so no-one else can send messages to members) and maintains the once a week digest mailing format.
The success is that within hours of setting up the facility a few people had already signed up - and I hadn't even told anyone... By October 2000 the list had reached over 430 members and continues to grow steadily each month.

AdultHumour
FridayHumour continued to grow and grow but there had always been some questions
about some of the more "adult orientated" humour (let's say references to sex and some more questionable
examples of our everyday vocabularies). The decision was taken to launch a new list along a similiar basis
that would allow people to choose to receive these type of jokes in addition or instead of FridayHumour.
Within a month AdultHumour had achieved 100 subscribers and is sent out mid-week (ish). By October 2000 the list
had grown to over 220 members.

ChristmasHumour
Aware of how much some people hated and some people enjoyed the daily emails that were
sent out during Christmas 1998 it was decided to launch a seasonal list that would only become active in the run-up to
the Christmas period and deactivate shortly afterwards until the same time the following year... ChristmasHumour was
then born.
Starting a couple of weeks before Christmas a daily email is sent out containing a couple of jokes on a Christmas related theme - or a few others if they are good enough!
