Ever been to the cinema with a bunch of friends and said "we really must go and see that film" only you never see it or have to wait to catch it on video? EventList was designed to overcome that as part of my idea of 2000 being my year of doing stuff.

During 1999, there were a growing number of emails being sent out "who wants to go and see x recorded?", "who's out Friday night?" and like everything else I decided to formalise things a little and turn it into an official mailing list.

Not everyone can join - you need to either have known me or emailed me for a while to be eligible for membership. If this applies to you and I haven't already invited you to join then you can apply for membership online and I'll be in touch.

The whole thing works on the basis of things I notice or get sent and think "that would be kewl to do". All it takes is one other person to say "yes" and that event happens. Number of people attending varies from 2 to the current record of 12. As at February 2001, approx. 70 people were EventList members across the UK (still waiting on a few of my international mates to join in the hope they will grace these shores at some point). Information is distributed via email and you have between a day and a fortnight to reply depending on how pressing the deadline is. For some events (e.g. TV recordings) then sometimes a little bit of consultation takes place as to which date would be best for people.

Some examples of EventList organised "stuff" include:

  • Recordings of Top Of The Pops; Room 101; Gimme, Gimme, Gimme; Rhona; Two Pints Of Lager (And A Packet Of Crisps); Parkinson; The News Quiz and The Frank Skinner Show.
  • Trips to the cinema to see: Three To Tango; The Next Best Thing; Chicken Run; Stuart Little; X-Men and others.
  • Steps, k.d. lang, Westlife, Boyzone and others live in Concert.
  • Screamers Comedy Club, Clubbing, My 25th Birthday drinks, French and Saunders on Tour, Walk For Life, Tour of the Houses of Parliament, London Mardi Gras 2000, The Art Of Star Wars Exhibition, Tour of Buckingham Palace and more.

See pretty varied, huh?

There's a lot of work that goes into EventList considering there's no actual charge for using it. All I ask is:

  • You check your email reguarly
  • Only respond if you're interested (reading six "no thanks" messages to each event just gets a bit annoying)
  • Pay promptly if you sign up to an event with a cost attached
But at the end of the day it's a good laugh and you also get to meet some of my friends.

EventListGOLD

Was introduced as a "thank you" to people who have actually attended an EventList event as an existing member. It's intended to be there for those difficult to get tickets or where we have a limited number of tickets allocated. In these cases EventListGOLD members get first refusal.

Although relatively new EventListGOLD stuff which has happened or is on the horizon include:
Recording of The Frank Skinner Show, Smash Hits Poll Winners Party at London Arena and Robbie Williams in Concert over in Dublin in Summer 2001.

Together or seperately it's a concept that is an all encompassing, almost off the shelf social life package!!
